Vita’s class is so much more than I could have hoped for. It is well thought out and the progression from week to week and how the lessons build on each other are eminently useful tools. Vita presents actionable plans for every area of a window treatment business, from process, to people to finances. All clear and accessible. I have my work cut out for me, but Vita’s excitement makes me feels that it is possible.

First of all, Julie, that is a lot. Be kind to yourself and know that your compassion is the most important thing.

What is paralyzing me right now is the fear of making a mistake. Fear of abject failure and, yes, imposter syndrome. I keep telling myself that no one will die if I make a mistake, but I keep waking up at 3:30 with a racing mind and not being able to go back to sleep. UGH!

Also, because of supply chain and back order issues, my sales/profit are very, very low. I know that will even out, but even I am surprised by how low they are. Also keeping me up at night.

And then, also, a bit overwhelmed by the amount of work to do based on what I have learned from the class. I am going to “take my business on a vacation” – go to a friend’s beach out by myself with my computer and printer and have concentrated time away from home to begin to work out my processes and procedures. Excited by this prospect

This one hit “home”. We downsized 2.5 years ago to a much smaller house and feel like we can tackle the weekly cleaning ourselves. Some weeks are harder than others, depending on if I have had a hard week or if I have to work on the weekend (when the cleaning occurs). I have been thinking hard for a while about getting a cleaning person. My husband’s business is currently on hiatus due to the pandemic, so he takes of many of the tasks (shopping, cooking, cleaning, landscaping) so I am lucky there. BUT – I do feel like I need to have some time to myself after difficult weeks. This is an on going process for me. I am still getting my head around how to use help in the workroom (the kind I have to pay!!).

Like Peggy, I was a tad overwhelmed after last class, but also very energized. I have a long way to go, but I have decided to take it in chunks. This weekend I experimented with flow charts. I did the simplest one I could do to get my feet wet. I made one for fabric inspection and check in. The I attempted to move on to a flow sheet for Roman shades. What that taught me was that I don’t need a flow sheet for this, I need to write the process for an operations manual. However, the notes I wrote for the Roman shade ‘flow chart” is halfway to writing the process, so there is that.
I could use a little help with how to download the app. I did the flow chart and saved it, but not the app (a bit technologically challenged) so I can’t go make and update it. Still, I am excited by the start. I will probably print this one and post it on the inspection machine.

I am committed to making a process binder for the treatments I do the most (to start with) so it will be easier to bring people on board.

Also, last week was a red letter day for me. I have two workers – my husband who is an unpaid employee (something to talk about???) and one more person I brought on board for one day a week right now. But did not really know how to delegate and always had her working with me on a job. Last week I was working on Roman shades and she was working independently on pillows and I felt like this is how it should be. The control freak in me was buzzing, but it felt good to finally let go.

I have to go back and look at the video from last week again as there was so much good info I could almost not take it all in.

    So much to think about.

Can someone tell me how to exactly download the the draw.io app? It seems that I will need to watch a tutorial. But do I download it to my computer?

There is a lot churning in my brain. My process flow chart is on a paper chart that I made myself. Is is rudimentary at best, but has worked so far. I spoke with a friend who is currently unemployed and very tech savvy. I may be hiring her to do all the initial inputting for air table. I have not gotten the free version of airtable yet, but I will. That I am committed to. I loved what I saw last week.
Like Peggy, I am interested to see where the color coding shows how much I actually do and how I can use it to delegate more.
One of my goals for this class is to learn how to onboard the person I have been grooming. I need to be able to move the work out faster.

I will get my thought down later today, but I did not see a download for week two. Am I missing something?

GOAL: To Get processes and procedures in place to ELIMINATE the ever present FEAR that keeps me waking up at 3:30 am. I was going to say lessen the fear, but my goal is to eliminate the fear. Needed to be specific.
The fear primarily has to do with:
1- making mistakes in the workroom
2- Estimating – fear that I am charging too much or not charging my value. By having process and procedure, my goal is to conquer this

By eliminating the fear, my goal is to:
1- Increase my sales by $75,000 this year.
2-To gain control over my personal life
3-To have human work hours – Monday -Friday 9-6
4-To streamline my process to have more profit
5- To learn how to delegate and take myself out of some of the work flow process
    6- Have my weekends back

A ha moment for me was that no one on your team goes to the install except the installer. The control freak in me heard bells. That would free up so much of my time, but then I would have to have a specific job order/instruction process for him. Yes, Rosemarie, you would!!!!!!
