Thanks, Jenny! Yes, I try to design down the middle and understand my client’s level of taste early on, but I like the idea of bringing in the contractor to see what the possibilities are and working on the budget together earlier in the process.
Same here! Also in the Bay Area. It also extends the time significantly between conceptual design where we flush out the budget for materials and then find a contractor in their overall budget before we go into the more detailed aspects. I feel like I’m making it more complicated, or maybe new builds are less complicated because the builder is in the lead. The order of events in the course seems much more straightforward than any project I’ve worked on but it could be the area we’re in or that it’s mostly remodeling vs. new builds.
