Oana,
Let me check with LuAnn and see what she thinks about this. Is there something specific you are looking for incase we cant upload the whole slide deck?
SaralynnbrennanParticipantHi Tara, no problem, I get it that we are all busy and can’t make the whole classes, plus I yap a lot 😉
I am restating your question for everyone to read below so I can then answer:
Q: My question/opinion was in regards to the Kitchen job. I wasn’t clear on how the project unfolds without permits and working drawings. Perhaps the GC and Kitchen expert consultant (?) secures those?
Also, liability-wise, it would seem important to have a clause in your agreement with the homeowner that their contract for the kitchen remodel is with the trades directly and not you.
A: Yes, you are exactly correct. The client goes into an agreement/engagement with the GC SEPARATELY from me and my team, we are purely there from a conceptual design planning, material selections, and finish schedule perspective in the Kitchen/Bath Consults. So anything from the “build” side, we are communicating our plans to the GC and he is responsible for the execution, permits, and calling out any risks to our plan. We disclose all over our drawings that we are only doing this for conceptual purposes.
We will sometimes continue to engage with the client form a “support” perspective and that would be an additional fee, scope of work, etc. and that would mean we check in, furnish and style/decorate the finished space along the way. Also some of our clients are very busy professionals and ask us to check in on job sites when they cant, so we write that into their scope. 🙂
SaralynnbrennanParticipantDid you all find it? It’s in week 2!
SaralynnbrennanParticipantSorry guys, I didn’t see this bc I was having tech issues at the time! 🙁
You should find the questionnaire questions in week 2!
SaralynnbrennanParticipantSo great to have you with us Tara!! Hope your living Cornell Notes!!

SaralynnbrennanParticipantSharon, I am just catching up on these messages but OMG I LOVE what I’m reading here!! So awesome!!
Say it again!!! Success doesn’t make you confident. CONFIDENCE in YOURSELF and YOUR ABILITIES make you successful!!! 🙂

SaralynnbrennanParticipantHey Courtney!!
Thanks for the question, I’m restating it below so everyone can see:
Question — when you are in the planning/ design phase – how do you track your ideas? I find that I’ll add something to a slide and then when the client says they love something it takes me a while to remember where I sourced it or my team doesn’t know where it came from… would love to know your process.
Answer: We put EVERYTHING we put into presentations (client facing) into MyDoma using the product clipper tool. We list the spaces as “Master Bedroom Concept” then create another space that eventually becomes “Master Bathroom Design Plan” and that way I can keep track of where all of the sources are coming from! I also write right on the presentation using my iPad so that I don’t lose the piece of paper or notebook I took notes on! 🙂
SaralynnbrennanParticipantHi Sharon,
I showed you a peek into the way we use MyDoma, mostly for client project organization, sourcing and the “product clipper”. We don’t communicate with clients in MyDoma but there are still a ton of features that are extremely valuable!
I’m so glad you’re making some progress in class, it sounds like you’re doing great!
SaralynnbrennanParticipantHi Oana!
Yes, our window treatment package is listed on our website here: https://calendly.com/saralynnbrennan/windoworflooringconsult?month=2021-08 (I hope that link works, if not, copy/paste)
It sounds like you are making great progress! As a window treatment professional, think about ways you can streamline and make the work you are doing more efficient. I think that can start with the way that you ask designers/clients to submit orders, change orders, schedule installs, etc. People will follow your lead and do what you ask them to do, just really come up with a plan to ensure you are not doing extra work that could be simplified or automated throughout the process.
Awesome job so far though!!
SaralynnbrennanParticipantHi Virginia,
Thanks for the update! Some of the items you mentioned are just the cost of doing business, that’s why its ESSENTIAL we build profits into our business models. You need money for marketing, payroll, expenses, etc. and not all of those things are something you build into your design fee necessarily, however you do build it into your cost analysis, profit/loss financial plan for the year.
I think you will continue to grow your confidence as you grow stronger in your processes. Keep going, you’ve got this!!!!
SaralynnbrennanParticipantRachel, thank you for sharing your feedback!! We all need more hours in a day, don’t we?! One step at a time, you’re doing great!!
SaralynnbrennanParticipantDanielle,
I’m so glad you’re getting a lot out of the course! My thoughts on your question about residential vs commercial, I would create two totally different questionnaires and processes. We don’t do a lot of commercial work, but we do have a different intake and systems. I think they are different workflows, timelines and approaches – maybe focus on one first and then try to duplicate and edit to build out the other. Hope that helps!!
SaralynnbrennanParticipantI am excited too!!
